BMW 7 Series

Reorientation.

Driver orientation in the BMW 7 Series Sedan.

It's the attention to detail that makes a good car a great one. Details that drivers know how to appreciate like the BMW 7 Series Sedan's ergonomic concept. With the position of the centre console rising up slightly towards the driver, all functions are positioned on the driver's side while all comfort functions are arranged further towards the middle to give the entire passenger compartment a clear and functional structure. Appropriately separated from one another, the function buttons for cruise control are on the one side and the control elements for the audio system and telephone are on the other.

More room for more comfort.
The exterior of the BMW 7 Series long version.

The long version of the BMW 7 Series is 14 centimetres longer than the short version - and all of this is used to increase space and comfort in the rear. The rear door is noticeably bigger, making it significantly easier to enter the vehicle. The interior is the most generously sized in the luxury sedan class, and the roofline and C-pillar have been redesigned to provide additional headroom, for a feeling of greater spaciousness.

Your turn. The iDrive operating concept
in the BMW 7 Series Sedan.

Right to continue, left for back and turn to select: you've now learned how to operate the new iDrive which gives you full control over all of the BMW 7 Series Sedan's functions from the navigation system to the integrated user guide. You can access the most important functions directly using the direct buttons and favourite keys. The optional high-resolution 10.2-inch display offers outstanding picture quality and you can use the "Back" key at any time to retrace your steps.

Identifying danger.
BMW Night Vision with detection of
individual persons in the BMW 7 Series Sedan.

Driving in the dark becomes a more relaxing experience with BMW Night Vision. This optional system reveals objects up to 300 metres ahead of the vehicle, thanks to an infrared camera that transmits images to the Control Display. BMW is the world's first car maker to offer person detection. Intelligent algorithms look specifically for pedestrians shown in yellow in the video. Should the system detect any danger to individual persons, the driver receives an additional warning on the Control Display or optional Head-Up Display.

Know your limits.

Speed Limit Display in the BMW 7 Series Sedan.

A revolutionary new driver assistance system, the Speed Limit Display keeps the driver informed of the maximum permissible speed at all times. A camera fitted near the interior mirror permanently monitors the signs by the road as well as variable speed limit signs on overhead displays and only responds to signs indicating a 60 km/h speed limit in the wet if it actually is raining. The permitted speed is presented to the driver in the instrument cluster or on the optional Head-Up Display.

By far the best on the road.

Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go

function in the BMW 7 Series Sedan.

Simply set your preferred cruising speed and relax: Active Cruise Control automatically reduces your speed up to a standstill if a slower vehicle appears in the lane ahead. If the vehicle is stationary for more than three seconds, a button must be touched before the vehicle will pull away. Even when Active Cruise Control is not in use, drivers can choose to have the system warn them if they are in danger of running into the back of the vehicle in front. Driving in slow-moving traffic becomes remarkably less tiresome.

See for yourself. The camera systems in the BMW 7 Series Sedan.

The Side View system gives you a better view of traffic coming from the side. Two additional front-end cameras are integrated in the front bumper, one on the left and one on the right. The images obtained, transmitted to the Control Display, offer not only additional comfort when manoeuvring, but also give the driver an immediate overview of traffic conditions around the car when driving through a narrow gate or leaving a car park.

The sum of all parts.
High Precision Injection and Twin Turbo
in the BMW 740i.

Two milligrams of petrol - that's how precise the High Precision Injection (HPI) controls the fuel-air mix. The dosage of the fuel injected is precisely ensured by the piezo injectors with only part of the combustion chamber being filled under lower partial loads. Thanks to the Twin Turbo, it is now possible for the straight six-cylinder engine to provide a supreme standard of power and performance previously only conceivable with far larger engines. Engine weight is also much lower, inter alia on account of the all-aluminium crankcase, which naturally benefits the agility of the entire car and offers more power on less fuel.

High-end performance.
The straight six-cylinder petrol engine
in the BMW 740i.

With an output of 240 kW/326 hp, the BMW straight six-cylinder engine is the most powerful ever. The power unit featured in the BMW 740i comes with the combination of Twin Turbo technology and High Precision Injection exclusive to BMW, offering unparalleled power and performance combined with truly impressive all-round economy. 5.9 seconds is all it takes to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. Engine weight is also much lower, inter alia on account of the all-aluminium crankcase, which naturally benefits the agility of the entire car.
